Printable Minor Blues Scale Bass Chart PDF

Dear fellow musician,

This 4-string minor blues scale bass chart pdf is an excellent tool for bass players (created as a follow-up to the Five Minor and Major basic bass pentatonic shapes) who want to expand their scale vocabulary to add a soulful, bluesy flavor to their solo improvisations.

What you’ll find on this page is a guided chart that includes all five minor blues scale shapes (also called patterns or fingerings) so you can memorize them and start expressing yourself more fluently on the entire neck.

How is it guided?

Follow the COLORS.

In the downloadable-print-ready free PDF file, I’ve marked:

  • All five minor blues scale positions’ root notes (Glossary Link) in a Red circle.
  • The blues notes themselves (b5) are marked in a Purple square,
so you’ll learn to differentiate and isolate them from the basic 5-notes minor pentatonic patterns.

Additionally, I’ve marked with a Blue triangle the major pentatonic root note found in each position (Don’t confuse it with the Major Blues scale).

so you’ll have a kind of map or grid if you may, to “visualize” three key elements in each position.

In my experience, developing this map-like vision is one of the most effective ways to navigate the fingerboard quickly when improvising over blues chord progressions.

In the long run, it will give you a significant advantage—so consider it a bonus!

In the following sheet, all five shapes are shown in the key of A minor Blues Scale (that’s why I included the fret numbers), and of course, once understood and memorized, you can move them anywhere you want on the fretboard to play in different keys.

This printable minor blues scale bass chart PDF  will also benefit music teachers who need a simple minor blues scale forms chart to visually represent the scale on the fingerboard during their lessons.

Another obvious benefit of the printable minor blues scale bass chart PDF is that you can download it once and print it repeatedly.

Want to master all five minor blues scale positions at lightning speed? Set a goal in your Bass Scales Memorization Tracker to run through each position 10–15 times a day for a week.

As your fingers lock in the patterns and muscle memory takes over, you’ll find yourself effortlessly unleashing fiery blues licks across the fretboard.

It’s recommended to practice the shapes alongside the PDF file you’ve just downloaded when it is laid out in front of your eyes.

Important:

  • The numbers within the circles, squares, or triangles represent the fingers you’re supposed to press with (the “correct” fingering).
  • The suggested fingerings are for basic memorization only.
Eventually, exploring and deciding what fingering works best under your fingers is up to you so your playing flows comfortably and smoothly.
