Printable Pentatonic Scales for Guitar Chart Pdf

Dear fellow guitarist,

Congrats on landing on this page because what you’re gonna find here is a guided printable pentatonic scales for guitar chart pdf file that covers both the major and minor pentatonic scale positions.

And when I say positions, I mean all five of them.

How is it guided?

In the downloadable-print-ready free  PDF file, I’ve organized the roots of the pentatonic scale positions ( same as pentatonic patterns, shapes, or pentatonic boxes) in different colors so you can identify the minor or major pentatonic root note  (Glossary link) in each position, depending on what mood you’re after.

In other words, one position can be major or minor, depending on your reference point or how you’re looking at the specific pentatonic pattern.

Of course, it’s possible because of the relative minor and major keys principal.
In the following worksheet, all five positions are on the A minor or C major pentatonic scale, and of course, you can move them anywhere you want to get different keys by moving the root.

Pro Tip:

Want to master all five pentatonic scale positions at lightning speed?

Set a goal in your Guitar Scales Memorization Tracker to run through each position 10–15 times a day for a week and see how fast you improve.

As your fingers lock in the patterns and muscle memory takes over, you’ll find yourself effortlessly unleashing fiery blues licks across the fretboard.

It’s recommended to practice the shapes alongside the PDF file you’ve just downloaded when it is laid out in front of your eyes.

Recommended Printing Settings:

For US Letter Paper (8.5 x 11 inches):

  • Scale: 100%
  • Paper Size: US Letter (8.5 x 11)
  • Layout: Portrait

For A4 Paper (use outside the US and Canada 8.27 x 11.69 inches):

  • Scale: 100% (or “Scale to Fit” for perfect alignment)
  • Paper Size: A4
  • Layout: Portrait

Here’s how I marked the root notes in each pentatonic scale diagram or “box”:

The circled red mark represents the root of the minor pentatonic scale.

The blue triangle mark represents the major pentatonic scale’s root note at the same position.

(Yes, that’s right. It is one position that’ll give you two different pentatonic atmospheres).

The numbers within the circles or triangles represent the fingers you’re supposed to press with (the “correct” fingering).

Important: the suggested fingerings are for basic memorization only.

Eventually, exploring and deciding what fingering works best under your fingers is up to you so your playing flows comfortably and smoothly.
